Hi! So You are new to Music sharing
First you need to know a few things
Music files all take up space on your hardrive
So make sure you have the Space to work with
We serve and share wav & mp3 format - video clips & lyrics
Pretty much anything Christian.
Files of any kind are allowed
As a way to spread and share the Word
Some even have the Bible on mp3
We do ask if you try the Mp3 format that you purchase the cd
and support our artist who are spreading Gods Word

Type !copyright in channel for more info on that
Look below for another's outlook on mp3

To listen to, serve, and download music
you need have a few things set up on your mIrc

1. Type /sound on in your mIrc window and hit enter

this is what it will look like when it is done correctly

If you have wavs in your sounds folder and someone plays it
You will be able to hear it if you don't have other music currently playing

2. You need to set your sounds options
File/options/sounds/request
Make sure you have these selected
Accept sound request
Warn if sound doesn't exist
Listen for !nick file get request

3. You need to make sure now that your dcc is set
so that your sends will send as quickly as they can and safely

A) File/options/dcc
Make sure these are selected
Show get dialog
Ask
Show chat dialog

B) File/options/options
Make sure these are your settings
Notify with a beep: send, get, chat
close window: send, get
Time out in seconds:
Get chat dialog 9999
Send get transfer 9999
Fileserver 9999

Put this in perform and pump your dcc
(type !pump in channel works too)

C) Depending on which version of mIrc you have
The ignore file types could be different
The newest updated version is mIrc5.82 and That is what I have

The older versions were "ignore all these files types"
and you would only add those you wanted ignored.

Now it is set to ignore all accept the ones you want to get
This made it safer to chat and enter rooms
and not receive unwanted Files such as viruses.

You will have to decide the types of files you will want
on your computer and that you will be downloading and serving

You need to set your mIrc to accept these types of files
or they will be ignored and you wont be able to download

Before you can direct a path or a file type to a folder
you have to make the folder

Example: wavs Mp3 video
I have created folders in my sounds folder
and in my mIrc to direct the downloads to
This is a preference thing

You could by default let anything and everything
go to your download folder then sort them later,

For me it was easier to keep them sorted
and less work in the long run for serving.

Now depending on your space and the type of files
you want to download and serve
you need a folder for them to go to and serve from

So now decide how much space you have
and what file type you want to download and make folders for each.

Making the folders are easy

Go to your "my computer" icon and to your c: drive
(or where ever your mIrc is)
Find your mIrc folder and open it

Inside your mIrc folder you should see this

Two mIrc icons one says mIrc32 and one says Mlink32
Folders: logs, download, sounds,

Now look for "SOUNDS" folder inside your mIrc folder

If there isn't one that just means
you have never used your sounds before
and if that's the case then lets make you a sound folder first

Logs are for if you save logs (total another issue)

Download: is a default no matter what you download
no matter what the file type unless you specify differently
will go to this folder

Sounds: most all sound types .wav will go there by default

If in your case that you have no folder
Lets make one

Inside your mIrc folder
File/new/folder

You will see A folder called "new folder"

Right click on the folder and in the drop menu select "rename"

type in "sounds"

Ok so now you have your sounds folder

Now ask yourself what types of files do you want
and what folders will you need?

Do you want mp3's? .mov, .wav, .asf, .txt .jpg,
Do you want to sort them by what you download and what you serve?

This is how you make your folder
but its up to you how many you want

I have one for every file type
and a Misc. download for each file type to download to
so I can simply check the files then add them to my serving files
In each of their own folder

I have lyrics, mp3, wav, Christian pics, video (mpg, asf, mov) folders

I keep the ones I serve and the ones I download separate
So if I don't finish a download
or one is corrupt it wont serve with my others

Those are just an examples of how I have mine

If this is your choice this is how you do this

Step one:
Open your sounds folder
File/new/folder
Rename the folder to the file type you are currently working on
Such as mp3
If you decide to have a separate download folder
then you simply Add a folder inside the mp3 folder

Like this:
Sounds/mp3/mp3 Misc. download
One folder inside of the other

Here is the picture again inside my mp3 folder

Follow these steps through each file type of your choice

Some have secular music so you have to separate the files
because we only allow Christian Materials served in here.

Inside my sounds folder looks like this
Sounds:

wavs | mp3 | Lyrics | Video | Mids | Christian Pics | Misc. Programs

Inside each folder is there own separate folder

Wavs: secular wavs | Christian wavs | Wavs Misc. downloads

Mp3: Christian mp3 | Secular mp3 | Mp3 Misc. downloads

Video: asf | mov | mpg | Video Misc. downloads

Lyrics: Christian Lyrics | Secular Lyrics | Lyrics Misc. download

Midi: Christian Mids | Secular Mids | Birthday Mids | Mid Misc. downloads

Christian Pics: | Christian Misc. Pics

Misc. Programs: Misc. Programs | Misc. Downloads
(This is for all the scripts and programs we share to help share materials)

Ok after you have decided what file types
you will get and serve, and made all your folders
now you need to make the paths point to each folder

So when you download, they will go to the right place

Much easier then it will sound
File/options/dcc/folders

Dcc get folders
Click on "add"
You'll get a new window

In the first path type in the file type you are wanting to add
Example *.mp3

Click on "into this folder"
and you will get a window to select where your folder is

When you have selected the folder

you will see in the path exactly where the folder is

You click "OK" and you will see this

Make sure you hit "OK"
This will tell your mIrc
to send your file types to their right folders.

You have to do this step for every file type and folder you want separated

Now you can get from those serving
You have a few different choices
as to how you will download from us.

"FSERVE"

Fserve: is a program in the channel
that is operated through dcc chat windows
you will use the trigger to get the dcc chat started
and then you work through the directories
and decide what you want
and request the music through the dcc chat window.

Basic instructions are find their trigger

You type the trigger in the channel to get the dcc window

When you type the correct trigger
you get a dcc chat window
from the person you are wanting files from

You hit "chat!"

Then you get a window that will tell you the basics of "how to" in the fserve

Keep in mind everyones may not LOOK the same

Type "Dir"

This list all thats in their list (all of their directories)

From [\*.*]

If you see a directory you would like to look in you
Type "cd (directory you want)"

You then need to type "dir" to see what files are in that directory

Now its time to "get" your file

Type "get (name of file you want)"
You will see a dcc window hit "accept"

You can go through the chat window
and all the directories that you choose

Most all dcc fserve windows have an idle time
If you don't request another directory or a file to download
You may get disconnected from the original fserve window
However it wont stop your downloads.
If you don't see anything else you want
you can close the window.

"FTP"

FTP: File transfer protocol
You need a special program for this
A common shareware free ftp program is
Leechftp

You have to first get it and install the ftp program of your choice
Then you have to label bookmarks for each ftp server
Name: (whose ftp is it)
Address:
Login:
Password:
Port:

This is a ftp ad from the room
and how to fill in the ftp program and what to look for

"Godsongz Christian ftp"
Address: godsongz.dyndns.org
port 777
username or Login: anonymous
password: your email address

If you have the information correct all you have to do is hit "connect"

You'll see a list of folders or files
and you go through and if you want something
you look at what directory it will download into

Do you have a folder set aside
or just on your desktop or you mIrc folders we set up for you.

Most commonly the things you are getting or have gotten
is listed on the left.
The things you are looking through
(there's things they are serving)
are on the right.

Usually you can see an icon where you can select
"download" after highlighting the file you want

"Requesting in the room!"

Yes there is a simple, a little more time consuming,
way to do it right here in the room

This is where sdfind and a few other music sharing scripts come in
You will see ads that look like popups displayed in the room
some are more complex then others, different colors
and designs depends on the persons taste

MOST common command is the person's list
Their list tells you what files they are serving
We keep a list of their triggers and how to get each persons list
(or we try)
You type !list in channel to get that
This will tell you ftp, fserve or room request
even those doing fserve or ftp usually also will allow in room request
Ok now...
MOST peoples list can be gotten by typing their nick with the "@" sign

Example: @Tam (typed in the room while I'm there will get you my list)
Usually it depends on the persons nick.

If my nick were Tam-[away] you'd get my current list by typing

@Tam-[away]

You see a dcc window, hit accept
(If you have this already you can overwrite to update their list)

You go to your mirc/download folder
that's where the txt file or zip of that persons list will be.
Some zip their list because they are so large.
If you chose to have a .txt folder
then the list would go there unless it's a zip

Ok now you open and read their list..
If you see something you want
You type !(their current nick) (file name as shown on list)
In the room and you will get the file coming to you in dcc chat form

EXAMPLE: !Godsongz Jennifer Knapp - Kansas - undo me.mp3

Now here is something else you need to know

QUE: what is it?
It is like standing in line online
Its first come first serve
and if you have more then one file you want
Then you have to wait one at a time.
Some will allow you to get two or more
depending on their and your connection.
Most is one file at a time

QUE: how many?
well that depends on the server.
Some allow 5 or 10 some 20 or more to go in que
you will get messages telling you how many you are allowed.

Some scripts let you see who is standing in line
and where you are,
some people's servers actually get full enough
that you have to wait to get the first file.

What happens if you get disconnected
or the people you are getting from gets disconnected?

With the exception of Yeti
Most have what we call resume

Which means as long as you don't change the file name
your computer will let the file pick up where it left off

Example: I requested a file
!Tam Amazinggrace.mid
I got booted
I re-requested it
!Tam Amazinggrace.mid

So it comes to me again in a dcc chat window
Again I hit accept
Then you see a lil window
Telling you the file name is on your computer already
Then you have to select
overwrite | resume | rename

To pick up where you left off hit
Resume
wala you will see the chat window
and the numbers where you left off like 45%
or where ever you left off at.

FOR YOUR INFO:
Most update their list often and daily.
Also some get files from other people and
They change the style or name of the file

Example:
when I download a file from someone and it has "_" (underscores) in it
I take them out.
Or if I decided to add the whole album name.
either way to get the file
you have to have the exact file name.
If its not correct you will get a message telling you
that they don't have it or you have the file name wrong.
So getting the list is important.

ALSO FOR YOUR INFO:
Say you are only looking for a certain song
or certain artist
you can request in channel
and have their scripts search for it
Kind of neat huh :)

To do that you type
@Locator (song name) or (file type ex. .asf) or (artist name)
@Find also works but @locator is most commonly used

Example:
I am just looking for people who are serving videos
So some of the file types are .mov or .mpg or .asf
You would type in channel @locator .asf

Anyone with that file type would send you a notice
or a message telling you their files they are offering.
Or that they have so many you may want to get their list

or a song :)
@Locator Amazing Grace
Or you can't remember a song name but you know some words
@Locator *foot*of*the*cross*
It will search through their serving scripts for those words
You can search by artist
@Locator Ray Boltz
Or album
@Locator NO Greater Sacrifice
You never know how people have the file names listed so try them all

What can I listen or watch these things on?

Windows media works :) for mp3 & videos
but why not get an awesome looking stereo :)

www.winamp.com (winamp is kewl)

Also to watch the video file types real player is good
www.realplayer.com
(there are freeware versions for these)

Did I forget anything?

Let me look this over :)
1. Set up your comp to get fast :) (pump)
2. Set up your comp to hear the music (sound on)
3. Folders to send the files to
4. Programs to serve or get from (sdfind & spr) (fserve & ftp)
5. Programs to enjoy what you have (winamp & real player)

If I forgot something or you'd like to add to this let me know
If you have more questions by all means ask :)

If you decide to serve with us please look through the controls
Set the advertising or random play timers to 20 minutes (1200 seconds)
That way we can fellowship too

We serve sdfind and a few other programs in the room
Check our list and or do a locator for them

Hope this helped!
God Bless
Tam
